Feeling Stuck? Try This Values Exercise
When you’re lost or overwhelmed, values give you a compass. Here’s a simple exercise from ACT.
The short answer
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses on values — what kind of person you want to be and what matters most — as a guide for choices, especially when anxiety or low mood cloud the way.
The exercise
Ask: if fear weren’t in the driver’s seat, what would I move toward this week? Pick one small action that reflects a value (connection, courage, health, creativity). Values-based action tends to bring meaning back, even before the mood lifts.
