Why I Founded NextTherapist
The question I heard most as a therapist was simply, “Who should I see?” Here’s the story behind NextTherapist — and why finding good care shouldn’t be this hard.
The short answer
I founded NextTherapist because too many people give up on getting help before they ever find it. The problem is rarely a lack of desire to heal — it’s the maze between someone and the right therapist: waitlists, unanswered calls, and no clear way to know who does what. NextTherapist exists to close that gap.
The question I couldn’t stop hearing
As a counselor, the question I got most often wasn’t about a diagnosis or a technique. It was, “Who should I see?” Friends, family, clients finishing up care, people who found me online — over and over, smart and capable people were stuck at the very first step.
And I understood why. Finding a therapist can mean calling a dozen offices, leaving voicemails that don’t get returned, guessing whether someone takes your insurance, and trying to figure out — from a two-line bio — whether a stranger is the right person to trust with your story. Many people run out of energy before they ever get to a first session.
What I wanted to build
I wanted the moment of reaching out to feel less like shouting into the void and more like being met. NextTherapist lets you share a little about what you’re looking for — your concerns, your location, your budget — and get matched with vetted therapists who actually fit, instead of starting from scratch alone.
The goal is simple: shorten the distance between “I think I need help” and “I have an appointment.” Because that distance is where a lot of people quietly fall through.
The same belief drives my own practice
Whether someone works with me directly or finds another great therapist through NextTherapist, the belief is the same: everyone deserves the right support, and finding it shouldn’t be a barrier in itself. Good care changed my life. I want it to be easier to reach for yours.
