Birth Trauma Is Real — and Treatable

A difficult or frightening birth can leave a mark long after everyone says “at least the baby is healthy.” That matters.

The short answer

Birth trauma can follow a birth that felt frightening, out of control, or unsafe — regardless of the outcome. Flashbacks, anxiety, avoidance, and feeling unheard are common. EMDR and trauma-informed therapy can help you process it.

You’re allowed to grieve it

“At least the baby is healthy” can leave your own experience unacknowledged. Your feelings about your birth are valid, and healing them can change how you feel about parenting and yourself.
