Grieving Through the Holidays
The holidays can amplify a loss. Here’s how to get through the season with a little more gentleness.
The short answer
Holidays highlight who and what is missing, and the pressure to feel festive can make grief heavier. There’s no “right” way to do the holidays while grieving — smaller, changed, or opted-out is all allowed.
What can help
Decide in advance what you can and can’t do, build in a way to honor your person, and let yourself feel both grief and moments of joy. You’re not betraying your loss by surviving the season.
